VIJAYAWADA: With BJP confirming that Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu will contest for the position of the Vice-President, reports emerged that the AP ministers want Mr. Naidu to continue in ‘active politics’.
Human Resource Development Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao, Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy and Civil Supplies Minister Prathipati Pullarao have openly requested Venkaiah Naidu to continue as Union minister even if he gets a nod from the BJP to contest for the position of Vice-President.
“Andhra Pradesh needs Venkaiah Naidu’s help in the position of a Union Minister for the overall development of the state. He holds a key position in India’s active politics. If he takes up a constitutional post at this point, it will not be good for the state as Vice-President is only a constitutional position”, Ganta Srinivasa Rao said.
Minister Prathipati Pullarao also echoed the opinion of Srinivasa Rao. He said that it is beneficial for a state if one of its MPs remain active in the Union government. “For us, Venkaiah Naidu is one of the senior politicians in the country and he had played a key role in the development of AP right from the times of state bifurcation. I personally feel that it will not be a wise decision for Venkaiah Naidu, to contest for the position of the Vice-President, even if offered by BJP”.
Venkaiah Naidu currently holds the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information and Broadcasting in the Prime Minister’s cabinet. With the Presenditial elections coming to an end, reports emerged in the TV media that Venkaiah Naidu is the front runner for the Vice-President’s position.
