HYDERABAD: Telangana Irrigation Minister Harish Rao directed officials to conduct a public hearing in Narayankhed of Sanga Reddy district, with respect to the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project.
The decision has been reportedly taken on Wednesday when the Irrigation minister held a video conference with officials and engineers.
Sources said that the Minister informed the officials some important updates on Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. Through Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project, the State government intends to provide Godavari water to three districts and a notification for the same is expected to be released on July 21, 2017.
As per the design of the project, the main canals are expected to come up in Hathnura and Pulkal Mandal of Sangareddy district. And the branch canals through Kalher, Naranyankhed, Hathnura and Andole Mandals.
The scheduled public hearing to be conducted on August 22nd is an attempt from the government to interact and clear the doubts among the public regarding the Lift Irrigation project.
With an estimated budget of Rs 80,500 crore, it is the costliest project taken up by the state government since 2014. Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project is also a key project for the TRS party to uphold their election promise of providing irrigation facilities to one crore acres of land. The government has already spent a total of Rs 10,000 crore on the project for purchasing land and allocated Rs 7,000 crore in the current budget besides taking a total of 7,400 crores as loan from a consortium of banks.
