The upcoming bypoll to Warangal (SC) Lok Sabha seat in Telangana is being seen as a first major test of popularity of the ruling TRS and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao after last year’s Assembly elections.
The bye-election, scheduled to be held on November 21, would witness a multi-cornered contest with TRS nominee Pasunoori Dayakar, Congress candidate and former Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana, NDA’s P Devaiah, a US-based medical professional, Nalla Suryaprakash of YSR Congress and the Left-sponsored Gali Vinod Kumar in fray.
While all the parties have run pillar to post and have wooed the voters in their own way to vote for their respective parties, the general phenomena in the past have been that the ruling party always won the bypolls with few exceptions. The TRS is just focusing on majority and and wants to pass the message to the world that the Telangana people are with their party and the chief minister like never before. NDA and Congress are trying to be more relevant in the Telangana polity by securing a second place. On the other hand YSRCP, though initially the feeling in the general public was it was contesting to help TRS, did test waters with Roja’s campaign and sensing some positive mood, its supremo lead a spirited campaign for last four days and they were elated with the turnaround of people to YS Jagan’s meetings and roadshows. They are definitely looking beyond deposit and eyeing for a third position which will pleasantly surprise them if that happens. Communists never bothers about the outcome of the polls and that is their fundamental principle. So going by the inside feelers from each of the party, all of them have got different objectives, except for winning.
It is clear on who is the favourite it is all about 2,3,4……
